Building Canada - An Overview

Building Canada is focused on delivering results that matter to Canadians—cleaner air and water, safer roads, shorter commutes, and prosperous, liveable communities. This seven year plan, from 2007 to 2014, will make a difference in the lives of Canadians while supporting the nation's priorities—a stronger economy, cleaner environment and better communities.

Building Canada provides $33 billion in stable, flexible and predictable funding to Canadian municipalities allowing them to plan for the longer-term and address their ongoing infrastructure needs.

The total infrastructure funding over the seven-year period is $37B, including $4B of sunsetting expenditures from the Canada Strategic Infrastructure Fund, Border Infrastructure Fund, Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund, and the Public Transit Capital Trust.
