The Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba signed the Canada-Manitoba Framework Agreement on September 5, 2008. Between 2007 and 2014, $853.86 million will be provided for infrastructure improvements in Manitoba under the Building Canada Plan.

Infrastructure Stimulus Fund

Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, the federal government has established a new $4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund that provides funding to provincial, territorial, municipal and community construction-ready infrastructure projects. Funding is available for projects that will be built over the next two years (2009-10 and 2010-11).

National Recreational Trails

Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada is investing $25 million to improve around 500 recreational trails across Canada. This investment in Canada's outdoor heritage will help to quickly create jobs, support into local economies, and attract tourists. To provide the most rapid economic benefit possible during this challenging economic time, funding will go to shovel-ready projects that are set to break ground and be completed in 2009-2010.

Green Infrastructure Fund

Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, the federal government will provide $1 billion over five years for a Green Infrastructure Fund (GIF). This Fund suports sustainable energy generation and transmission, along with nunicipal wastewater and solid waste management infrastructure. Targeted investments in gree infrastructure can imporve the quality of the environment and will lead to a more sustainable economy over the longer term.

Building Canada Fund

The Building Canada Fund will provide more than $278.79 million towards infrastructure initiatives in Manitoba under the following two components: Communities Component for smaller communities ($41 million) and Major Infrastructure Component for large scale initiatives ($237.79 million, which includes $141.5 million for the Red River Floodway Expansion).

On January 13, 2009, the Communities Component was officially launched in the Province of Manitoba.

Gas Tax Fund

A total of $391.74 million in gas tax funding (2007-2014) has begun flowing, and will flow, to Manitoba municipalities with the extension of the Gas Tax Agreement from 2010 to 2014.

Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund

Manitoba municipalities are receiving $8.33 million through the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund Top Up.

This funding was announced by the Government of Canada in May 2007 to ensure continuity of funding particularly for small communities to address infrastructure priorities such as water, wastewater, roads and transit.

Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative

The Government of Canada has committed over $1 billion to the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative, with $54.25 million being committed to initiatives in Manitoba.
