The Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario signed the Canada-Ontario Framework Agreement on July 24, 2008. Between 2007 and 2014, more than $7.740 billion will be provided for infrastructure improvements in Ontario under the Building Canada Plan.

Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, the federal government has established a new $4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund that provides funding to provincial, territorial, municipal and community construction-ready infrastructure projects. Funding is available for projects that will be built over the next two years (2009-10 and 2010-11).

Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada is investing $25 million to improve around 500 recreational trails across Canada. This investment in Canada's outdoor heritage will help to quickly create jobs, support into local economies, and attract tourists. To provide the most rapid economic benefit possible during this challenging economic time, funding will go to shovel-ready projects that are set to break ground and be completed in 2009-2010.

Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, the federal government will provide $1 billion over five years for a Green Infrastructure Fund (GIF). This Fund supports sustainable energy generation and transmission, along with municipal wastewater adn solid waste management infrastructure. Targeted investments in green infrastructure can improve the quality of the tenvironment and will lead to a more sustainable economy over the longer term.

The Building Canada Fund will provide more than $3.096 billion towards infrastructure initiatives in Ontario under the following two components: Communities Component for smaller communities — under 100,000 — ($362 million) and Major Infrastructure Component for large scale initiative ($2734.94 million).
On August 26, 2008, the Communities Component was officially launched in the Province of Ontario.

Under the Framework Agreement, the Province of Ontario will also receive a total of $175 million in base funding, through to 2014 for core infrastructure priorities.
Just over $4.404 billion in gas tax funding (2007-2014) has begun flowing, and will flow, to Ontario municipalities with the extension of the Gas Tax Agreement from 2010 to 2014.

Ontario municipalities are receiving $64.05 million through the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund Top Up.
This funding was announced by the Government of Canada in May 2007 to ensure continuity of funding particularly for small communities to address infrastructure priorities such as water, wastewater, roads and transit.
The Government of Canada has committed over $1 billion to the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative, and $2.1 billion to the Gateways and Border Crossings Fund. These national, merit-based Funds will support projects that advance Canada's international trade.
